What is Autonomous Maintenance?
Autonomous Maintenance is the second pillar of the eight pillars of TPM ( Total Productive Maintenance ). Which is apply in the manufacturing process. The principle is the maintenance and repair done independently by the machine operator. Who is expect to have special knowledge about the machine ( equipment ). Implementation is complete with a structure approach. To improve employee skill levels, so they are able to understand, manage, and improve processes and machines that are in their area of responsibility.
The purpose of autonomous maintenance is to encourage operators. To act quickly and proactively in the maintenance of machines. So that the machine is always in the best performance. The operator is expected to make repairs for minor damage or simple maintenance of the machine. Thus, maintenance personnel can be more focused for cases of more serious damage. With maintaining the machine, then the optimal conditions and sense of ownership will be created. Of course, this approach will also help reduce the potential for defects and engine breakdowns.
How to Start Autonomous Maintenance Implementation?
The implementation of the autonomous maintenance pillar is divide into three phases. It is complete by the team who in their daily use machine that becomes the object of autonomous maintenance.
Phase one: In this phase the team will perform maintenance on the machine and keep the condition remains primed by doing the restoration and eliminate. The causes of damage / machine die and engine contamination sources. At this stage, teams should be introduce to standards that regulate cleaning, inspection, firming and lubrication activities to ensure the engine condition is always good.
Phase two: In this phase the team will get detailed training on operational principles so that their knowledge and skills on machine repair will increase. After passing this phase, the team is expected to understand how to improve the condition of the engine to keep it in the standard performance.
Third phase: In this phase, operators take ownership of their respective machines, and continuously maintain or improve machine condition and performance, to reduce losses during the process.
What are the Advantages of Autonomous Maintenance?
The application of autonomous maintenance will increase the overall equipment effectiveness ( OEE ) value by reducing performance loss and increasing availability of the machine. In addition, there will be measurable improvements, related to employee engagement and capability levels.
Conclusion
Autonomous Maintenance is a concept of machine maintenance that involves a production operator as a user to perform basic maintenance. The implementation of this pillar aims to improve the knowledge, skills, and responsibilities of production-related machinery operators. So that productivity will increase as a whole. Autonomous Maintenance uses a system that is structure and document so that the program can run consistently.
