Principles of Lean Manufacturing

Five major principles of lean manufacturing: value, value stream, flow, pool and perfection, can be applied in any business process. Including trash work in any industry. Unless the engineer is directly involving in manufacturing, he may be only slightly familiar with Lean theories. Lean manufacturing or lean production is a method develop by the Toyota company. It is also use to eliminate waste (waste/young) in the manufacturing system.

In essence, this practice aims to add value more on other things by reducing. The structure to increase product value and customer interaction. There are a few principles which govern the systematic methods of lean it is, and it is important to understand these principles before implementing this technique.

Eliminate Waste

The main principle of lean is to eliminate waste. In the manufacturing environment, there is a lot of waste generate because of excess production, motion, inventory, flawed, waiting, processing, and transportation. This type of waste can also be apply to various types of businesses such as hospitals, banks, as well as other services.

In the process of eliminating waste, it is important to look into diverse areas in the Organization and determine the work that is not value-added (Non Value Added) so that it can be reduced or eliminated.

The working culture of Kaizen in Japan, continuous improvement (continuous improvement) is the most important of all the purposes and principles of the lean. Without it, organizations will not be able to progress at all. The problem is that continuous improvement is always pushing the changes needed to achieve the desired state or situation. It doesn't matter if you are looking for small or large repairs, the important thing is to always look for it and it will be the goal of lean manufacturing also brought success.

Built-in Quality

Understanding the built-in Quality is quality built or created in the process. Not through repair or in the next process. To reduce waste, lean indicated that quality should be integrate into the manufacturing process. This means from the design phase through to the packaging. The quality must be in all the places. Automation, though still using the touch of man, is a great example of the principles of lean it.

Just In Time Production

The principle of Just In Time (JIT) is showing that companies only have to do what is needs. When need, while considering the quality of the product. With this principle, a component use in the manufacture of products use on time and precisely. So that waste (waste) generate very minimal.

The Level of Production

Levels of production through the line balancing is an important foundation in the concepts of lean manufacturing. This concept emphasizes that workload should be the same every day. The problem is that many companies have a tolerance of customers. Its production relies on the orders of their customers. So, as a organization got orders in large quantities. Often generating business overproduction and even products that may not be need by the customers at all. The rate of production is the main ingredient in reducing the amount of waste due to over production.

Appreciate and respect the Workers (Respect People)

Business is for all, so that the principles of lean manufacturing next had to do with the welfare of workers. Actually, the most important resource of any company is its employment practices. Without the people who work for the company, would not work. It is important for businesses to make their employees feel respected. The more motivated their feelings, more employees will work to implement a system of lean. To make people feel respected, companies must continue to communicate with them and listen to their ideas.

On the conclusion, of course any system or concept has advantages and disadvantages of its own without exception Lean Manufacturing. Therefore, it's the principles that cover the shortfall. Excess production is ramping up as above, but this could be a shortage when the company apply it halfheartedly.

So our writing about understanding the principle in Lean Manufacturing. Hopefully with this article can be useful for those of you. Who are looking for references about lean especially for loyal visitors.
