Project tracking
what does project tracking have to track? it is aimed at the three aspects of planning, task and project members, in order to understand the actual progress of the project. such as understanding the completion of the member's work, understanding the completion of the entire project plan and so on.
The project tracking is necessary because it demonstrates whether the plan is executable and whether it can be completed.
Because plans can be tested, if you use planning and tracking as a work cycle, the plan will be improved in due course, as a large number of program improprieties will be found during the tracking process. now in our project, there are a lot of plans that are not enough, which can prompt us to improve and perfect.
The project tracker should be the project manager, who has a project plan and the project manager has the authority to coordinate and move the work. that is, the primary purpose of tracking is to give the project manager a reference to the work. tracked results and data are "best teaching materials".
1. Understand the work of members.
Once a task has been assigned, the project manager should know the progress of the work, and he must communicate with the project member to understand the member's situation. so the message he wants is, "can you finish on time and in value?" what kind of help do you need if you can't finish it on time? "that's what project managers are most concerned about. and it needs to be collected at any time. if this information is not collected, then the project manager loses the understanding of the project, also loses the timely adjustment, so that the consequences can be imagined, project delays, confusion ...
2. Adjust the work arrangements, rational use of resources.
If there are a few or dozens of people in the project team, it may appear to complete the task sooner or later different, finish early can not be idle, finish late to delay. this will require adjustments in the work of the project manager. then this tracking results and data can help the project manager with the work.
3. Promote the improvement of the program content.
The project personnel, and to track, which will inevitably require the project manager to make a detailed plan, this plan must be clear tasks, clear task leaders, clear task start and end time. this requires the project manager to divide the whole project into parts. consider the division of labor in detail. the project manager's tracking inevitably leads to more detailed and rational work plans for the project team members, culminating in a welcome situation in which the hierarchy (project plan, phase plan, and individual plan) is presented by the plan.
4. To promote the project manager's understanding of personnel.
After the work is broken down, the work should be assigned according to the individual's specialty, because the specialty is efficiency. therefore, the project manager must understand the situation of the project members. even if you don't know this at first, this information is quickly reflected in the tracking. that is, tracking prompts the project manager to make an assessment of the members, and the assessment can be found to be based on (the result of the project trace).
5. To promote the project workload estimates.
There should be an estimate of the amount of work in a good tracking tool. estimates of workload are always inaccurate, and this problem is tracked as failure to complete tasks/plans, or work ahead of schedule. after this happens, it is inevitable that the project manager will consider the assessment of the workload (including the workload of the entire project, the workload of each task, which may lead to changes to the entire project plan).
6. Statistics and understand the overall progress of the project.
This is often the case when the project team is working at different stages at the same time. at this time, it is difficult to grasp the progress of the work, especially the overall progress. if the project manager divides the stages clearly, and the stage workload is clear, and the project members evaluate their workload (percentage of completed tasks), the overall progress of the project can be automatically generated by the tool (percentage of completion). this is certainly not very accurate, but it can serve as a reference. and it's a good reference.
7. Conducive to personnel assessment.
The ability of project members to work (whether to complete tasks on time, the size of the work done...). a lot of information can be reflected).
In terms of tracking, it is the project manager who takes the initiative to understand the project. however, project members should proactively report to the project manager, especially on issues at work. "no problem is a problem". now we need a good tool to build and refine our tracking efforts.
